Gay Amsterdam

Gay Life in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Holland’s bustling capital, modern but classic at the same time. This city has 42 museums, which grants cult classification to its guilds. Most locals speak at least one language apart from mother tongue and there is a high life leniency if compared to other European cities in the world. Could these points be relevant to the fact that Amsterdam is one of the gay stronghold cities in entire world?
A multitude of stores and coffee shops cater to the gay community in a profound sense of equality and respect that gives this city a very pleasant environment of conviviality. Its citizens are rather tolerant and easygoing to get along with, rendering the gay limelight and functioning places almost hassle free, figure of speech.
To gay tourists the city of Amsterdam is very receptive and offers a wide range of tourist spots to share tips on boroughs and locations not to be missed by those wishing to indulge in the hospitality and cordiality of this great gay icon. Based between Dam-Square and the Central Station there is the Warmoesstraat a very popular area. There are gay bars, coffees, saunas, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, cinemas, dark rooms and club houses. This street is deemed “hardcore”, maybe because of the bar names, such as “Cock ring” and “Dirt Dick”. They are regular bars but the differential lies in functioning dungeons and/or dark rooms. Other highly popular street is the Reguliersdwars area. In summertime, it is a very good place to hang out with friends, in front of bars like, for example, the April Bar, one of its most famous gay bars. Quieter than Warmoesstraat area, since in this area there are all things businesses, bars and hotels. It’s usual see how free and tolerant the atmosphere there gets. In balmy evenings, Reguliersdwars is a  street of wall to wall people catering for “soft core” entertainment.
When the subject is shopping, Amsterdam dishes out a safe heaven for those who can’t help splashing on shop sprees. Clothes and accessories readily available on Albert Cuyp Street and on Waterlooplein Street, with very good prices and very good quality.  For the clubber/drag queen/rocker public a store called Diabolo (Oude Zijds Voorburgvaal 242) specializes on psychedelic paraphernalia.
The first place to accept gay marriage springs into mind ridden of surprises and curiosities to the GLS public as well as heterosexual, because there, the first word to be learned seemingly Tolerance.
